Everything you need to know about private midwifery care with Birth Southwest
Frequently Asked Questions
Choosing private midwifery care and considering a homebirth is a deeply personal decision.
At Birth Southwest, I want you to feel confident, supported, and fully informed at every step.
You’ll find answers to some of the most common questions families ask me. If you don’t see your question here, please reach out at birthsouthwest@outlook.com, I’d love to chat with you directly.
What areas do you service?
I provide midwifery care across the South West of WA, including Bunbury, Capel, Busselton, Boyanup, Donnybrook, Thompson Brook, Greenbushes, Bridgetown, Collie, Balingup, and surrounding areas. If you’re unsure whether I cover your location, please contact me to discuss your options.
When should I book in?
The earlier, the better. Booking early allows us to build a strong, trusting relationship and ensures continuity of care from the very start. Care can begin from conception, and no GP referral is required. But no matter your gestation, I welcome you to reach out, I’m here to support you whether you’re newly pregnant or already well into your journey.
Can you refer me for blood tests, ultrasounds, and provide scripts?
Yes. As your midwife, I can prescribe medications and directly refer you for pathology tests and imaging (such as ultrasounds). If you’d like, I can even collect pathology samples during a home visit for your convenience.
What if my homebirth doesn’t go to plan?
Safety is always the priority. Throughout pregnancy, we’ll discuss different scenarios and create a personalised transfer plan. If a transfer to hospital is needed, it will be a calm and seamless process, with your care continuing to be respected and supported.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes. I understand that private midwifery care is a significant investment for families. Flexible weekly payment plans are available, and we can tailor an arrangement that suits your circumstances.
